Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Rail Engineering Track Maintenance & Level 2 Certificate in Rail Engineering Underpinning Knowledge Duration: 8 Weeks Monday-Friday Course for Unemployed Details on Application

This qualification has been developed to provide you with underpinning knowledge and related practical skills within a Track Maintenance environment, along with practical experience and expectations of the situations that you could face in this job role.

It covers knowledge and understanding of a broad range of maintenance competencies and has been developed in consultation with colleges, training associations and industry experts to ensure that it meets the needs of the Rail Engineering sector. The qualification covers a wide range of subjects including Health and Safety, Mathematics, Track Construction and Components, Mechanised Maintenance, Track Geometry and much, much more

Course Details 

This qualification will be achieved when you have successfully completed 12 Units from the Level 2 NVQ Diploma and 4 Units from the Level 2 Certificate Underpinning Knowledge, plus practical assessments on a live track.

  • City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Rail Engineering Underpinning Knowledge

The course has been designed to maximise practical hands on experience all underpinned with the theory.

It will be blended learning – a mixture of classroom, practical sessions and home study.

After The Course

After successful completion of the course you will receive a regulated City and Guilds Certificate in:

  • L2 NVQ Diploma in Rail Engineering Track Maintenance
  • L2 Certificate in Rail Engineering Underpinning Knowledge 

After the Course career options:

Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technology

Overview

Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technology 2-3 Days over 15 Weeks Funded Through Learner Loans Details on Application

This qualification has been developed to provide underpinning knowledge and related practical skills in a range of engineering subjects, along with practical experience and expectations of the situations that you could face in an engineering job role.

It covers the advanced level knowledge and understanding of a broad range of engineering competencies and has been developed in consultation with colleges, training associations and industry experts to ensure that it meets the needs of the engineering sector.

This diploma does not require occupational evidence.

The qualification covers a wide range of subjects including health and safety, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer aided design, mathematics, computer numerical control, electronic engineering, fabrication and welding, communication engineering, aeronautical engineering and milling turning, and machining.

Course Details 

This qualification is completed by completing mandatory units followed by the required number of optional units.

The optional units will be selected with your Trainer.

Mandatory units include:

  • Engineering and Environmental Health and Safety
  • Engineering Organisational Efficiency and Improvement

Plus Six of the optional units comprising of centre marked practical /theory assessments

Other aspects of the course will include:

Level 3 Diploma in Engineering and Technology which includes:

  • PTS Personal Track safety course
  • Track induction Course
  • Sentinnel registration
  • Drug and Alcohol testing
  • PPE including boots and high vis clothing

This course is assessed by an on-screen examination covering the two core units, and Centre marked theory and practical assessments for the optional units plus practical assessment on a live track.

After the Course

After successful completion of the course you will receive a regulated EAL Certificate ‘Level 3 Diploma in Engineering and Technology’

You will be able to consider and pursue careers in the following areas:
